The next morning, Saturday, we woke up pretty early--about seven forty-five, and our alarms were set for eight. Sadly, in some confusion of planning, we had to check out of our nice hotel room by nine. Since our next hotel didn't allow check-in until three (but we couldn't come past three or we would lose the room), we ended up carrying our bags around for most of the day.
We went immediately to the main strip of the festival to try to get the pictures we were unable to get the night before due to the snow storm. We started out with a few flurries and were able to get some pictures, but most of the statues were covered in snow. A lot of workers were busy trying to clean off the snow, but as it got closer to ten, it started falling again.
We wandered in the snow a bit before we both started getting cold and decided to head for the station. We stopped by the government building because it has really neat architecture but didn't stay long.
At the station, we met up with Mike and a couple of the JET guys (people he knew from the program but not in our area) and wandered further in the town for lunch.
The guys took us to ramen alley, where we all split up because the shop they wanted to go to was really full and we thought the ramen at another shop looked better. It was very delicious--I got a spicy one, and it actually had a bit of a bite to it. Tati and I both agreed that the ramen the night before had better vegetables and meat, but the broth for the lunch ramen was more flavorful.
After lunch, Tati and I headed over to our hotel, which ended up being really close, to see about checking in. We were able to, but we couldn't head up to our room to drop off our bags until three, so we left them at the front desk and made our way back to the station.
Met back up with Mike and one of the other guys, Troy, and we all got on a bus to the Sapporo observation hill. Mike, who was our guide, fell asleep, and so we ended up getting off the bus early because he was unsure of our location when he woke up. It made for a really nice walk. The snow had stopped falling by the time we had finished lunch, and the rest of the afternoon was nice and sunny.
